Questions about Group Classes

[QUESTION]
I’m confused as to what is happening on the first day of class.
Why are the times different on the first night as compared to all other nights?

[ANSWER]
On rare occasions we combine the first day of class with other classes.  Your first day of class will last 90 minutes.  Normally class length is limited to only 60 minutes.  Because the training method we will use is new to most people, we use this time to give you a firm foundation into the science behind the methods.  Often the early evening class will be combined with the later evening class.
Expect 8 - 20 other students in your first class.  Your subsequent class size will be much smaller.

[QUESTION]
Why don’t I bring my dog to the first class?

[ANSWER]
You will need to first learn the mechanics of clicker training before you can begin to train your dog.  In this respect we train you to be your dog’s trainer.   Bringing your dog to the first class would not allow for good people learning.

[QUESTION]
What should I bring to class?

[ANSWER]
On your first week of class, please bring...

  • Your dog’s shot records
  • Your completed registration form, if you hadn’t mailed it.
  • Class tuition, if not already paid.
  • A willingness to learn.

On your second week of class you will need to bring...
  • Your dog
  • A flat buckle collar, body harness, head halter OR martingale style collar.  (No choke, pinch or shock collars allowed)
  • A 4 to 6 foot ‘fixed length’ leash.  (No flexi leads - please)
  • Yummy treats your dog LOVES!!!
  • A bag to hold the treats.  Preferably a treat bag you can wear.  Such as a carpenter’s nail pouch or clip on treat bag.
  • Your dog’s bed or mat.  A bath mat is a good example.

[QUESTION]
My puppy doesn’t have all the shots that you require.  Can I still come to class?

[ANSWER]
Depending on the age of your puppy, he/she may not have all the shots we require.  This is typical.  And yes you may still bring your puppy to class.

[QUESTION]
What shots do you require my dog to have before attending class?

[ANSWER]

  1. Rabies
  2. Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
  3. Distemper
